Justine Witkowski is a transdisciplinary mixed media artist and writer currently based out of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Born and raised in rural southeastern Arizona, their longest-running project revolves around the passages of life, death and rebirth in desert settings and how those mechanisms impact the way humans dwell within what many consider to be one of the world’s most harsh and unforgiving ecosystems. In more recent work, they have been experimenting with cultivation of surrealist mythos within these contexts and how imagery can be conceptually sequenced across mediums through shape and mark-making. They primarily do this through watercolor, micron, graphite and lithography printmaking.
They are currently pursuing two BAs in studio art and anthropology at the University of New Mexico.
